Snapchat Spectacles Could Cause Car Accidents

On Saturday, September 24th, 2016 Snapchat released Snapchat Spectacles which are a fashionable way for you to capture all your stories without having to use your iPhone or Android smartphone. These smart sunglasses are much different from Google Glass in that they only cost $139 and they look like the glasses you would see on college students across campuses throughout the United States. It will be interesting to see if these glasses are the hot Christmas gift for 2016.

While many think the Snapchat Spectacles are a great way to broadcast your life, they will likely also be a device that can become a huge distraction while driving. It is well known that teens love to play on their phone and hang out with friends when they are behind the wheel of a vehicle. In fact, the number one distraction for teens while driving are other teens. Most would think it would be texting, Snapchat, Facebook, What’s App or other forms of social media.

If teenagers are driving their vehicle while wearing Snapchat Spectacles there is a good chance they will be trying to do something silly such as go beyond a specific speed limit or do doughnuts in the high school parking lot. We would imagine a number of Snapchat users will try to “one up” their friends by going even faster or doing even more crazy stuff. This can be seen by looking at all the crazy YouTube videos in which students are flying around in their cars, trucks and SUVs.

We can only hope that teens and college students do not try to do something ridiculous just to show off to their friends. Unfortunately, there is a strong possibility of this. Many personal injury lawyers have been called to discuss legal rights after an accident caused by the Snapchat app. Most lawyers and attorneys have stated that the individual using Snapchat is almost always at fault. This is something to think about when it comes to letting your children drive while using their iPhone.

Most parents know when their children are using their phone while driving. Also remember that teenagers learn from the example of their parents. This is why it is important to never use your smartphone while driving; especially when your children are in the car.

Do you think Snapchat Spectacles are going to cause car accidents? Are you concerned they are going to make your children drive faster or more recklessly?
